Introducing “Safety On,” an original novella following R Cell’s Agent Rooster as he works with the Breckenridge Corporation after Operation Shrimp Farm.
Safety On, File 1 of 9 // Accessible Version
So I have an assistant now at the Breckenridge gun range, her name is Charlie, and Charlie is hot. Gotta stay cool. All I have to do is show her the ropes and teach her to shoot. I can handle that, right?
Safety On, File 2 of 9 // Accessible Version
It’s lunchtime with my hot new assistant. And it seems like Charlie has the same unprofessional thoughts I do. Nothing can go wrong here, can it? It’s not like I can smell the fireworks between us. Or is that gunpowder?
Safety On, File 3 of 9 // Accessible Version
It seems I have to actually do real work today. I have newbies to train to make sure they don’t kill each other or themselves. Time to put on the drill sergeant routine and whip them into shape. I sure hope Charlie doesn’t have a thing for men in authority positions.
Safety On, File 4 of 9 // Accessible Version
I’m pretty sure that it’s a bad thing that Charlie is into me. Like a lot. Like almost as much as I’m into her. But I can’t let myself fall into that trap. No matter how much I want to, or how much she wants to, I can’t let anything happen between us.
Safety On, File 5 of 9 // Accessible Version
Charlie’s good at this game we’re playing. And I’m playing a risky strategy. But at least she’s only listened to my sad history and not brought her own into play. Because that would make her emotionally vulnerable. And that’s a bad thing, right? Right?
Safety On, File 6 of 9 // Accessible Version
I’m dumb. I am so dumb. There’s only one reason I’d be driving to this bar to meet up with Charlie, and it’s not what I said out loud. This is a train wreck, and it’s obvious. And I’m diving straight into it.
Safety On, File 7 of 9 // Accessible Version
Sex.
Safety On, File 8 of 9 // Accessible Version
Finally it all comes together. Not just Charlie and me, but everything that’s happened today. Maybe I actually am smart enough to figure out what’s really happening.
